2018 Honda Accord

After 24 years of giving an annual award to a vehicle that stands out in the auto industry, the 2018 North American Car of the Year was awarded to the 2018 Honda Accord. As one of the most revamped vehicles in the industry for the year, the Accord boasts an impressive new look and resembles a luxury car that is gaining more attention on the road. It is the third time that a Honda model received the award in the past two decades.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 and the 2018 Lincoln Navigator were also winners in separate categories. Over 60 jurors chose the winning model with votes tallied by Deloitte LLP.

Chris Paukert, a NACTOY juror, stated, “Honda seems to have executed some sort of magic trick — not only is this 10th-generation Accord far sleeker and more decisively styled than its predecessor, it’s somehow roomier inside, too. Even in low-end trims, it drives well and offers a strong amount of standard equipment."

As sales increase for SUVs, Honda worked hard to transform the design of the Honda Accord in hopes of attracting more customers with a sleek vehicle that has undergone a significant makeover. The exterior of the car shows off sharp edges and a wider body that offers more room in the cabin for the drivers and passengers.

The 2018 Honda Accord offers more value without much of a price increase as a 10th generation car that is still a modest mid-size vehicle. It features a sloped roof with LED lights that sparkle and looks like diamonds that accessorize the vehicle. The car is also lower to the ground, making it appear as if it glides while on the highway.

Handling is also impressive with the vehicle, and it still drives like a smaller sedan rather than a mid-size vehicle. Drivers can choose between two engines, which includes the 2.0-liter VTEC turbo or the 1.5-liter VTEC turbo that has 192 horsepower.

The cabin is now more upscale with rich wood accents and leather seats that create a chic interior setting that has plenty of head- and legroom. The smooth and quiet drive is also more refined without compromising on the amount of power that is offered with the engine.

The vehicle also received the 2018 North American Car of the Year award for its minimal instrument panel and high-resolution display that features navigation, audio information, and allows you to make phone calls. The display is conveniently located next to the speedometer, making it easy to keep your eyes on the road while remaining productive. Additional features include heated front and rear seats, rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot monitoring, ventilated front seats, and leather upholstery.

The Honda Sensing Package also makes it stand out on the market and offers a forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist.

The safety features have also received an upgrade with the new Accord, making it the most technologically advanced model. It now comes standard with Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation System, Collision Mitigation Braking System, and Lane Keeping Assist System.
