The All-New 2019 Honda Insight Revealed

All-New 2019 Honda Insight Interior

It’s now official; the 2019 Honda Insight has arrived! The Honda Insight recently made its debut at the New York International Auto Show, and now it’s a matter of time before it can be in your driveway.

Overview of the 2019 Honda Insight

The Honda Insight is comparable to the Honda Civic Hybrid; however, it’s not at all the same vehicle whatsoever. The Insight is standard equipped with a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine, which is akin to the two-motor hybrid system. As a traditional hybrid, the Insight is expected to reach 55 mpg city; however, EPA estimates and specific fuel economy information have not been released by Honda at this time.

What's on the Exterior?

Honda is expecting the Insight to appeal to a broader selection of customers than the Civic, with a polarizing exterior style that is a trade-off from fuel efficiency. The exterior has an aerodynamic look that is much different than you would expect from a hybrid. The tail lights are noticeably different than the Civic with an elegant and sophisticated look that stands out in a way that is exclusive to the Insight. When you first see the Insight, “hybrid” is not the first word that comes to mind.

Although the efficiency of the Insight is still expected to be remarkable, it is being marketed by Honda as a style-focused and performance focused hybrid. That means that potential car buyers can probably anticipate having a lot more fun with the Insight than other hybrids in the same class.

What's on the Interior?

Once you get inside of the Insight, you can see that there are additional differences from the Civic. The interior has a few significantly distinct features, such as there isn’t a traditional gear shift for the transmission. Instead, the Insight was designed with a button-style shifter that is also becoming increasingly more popular among other sedans in its class. The partial LCD instrument cluster is also unique to the interior design and different from other Honda counterparts.

The rear head and leg room are considered generous for a sedan. The leg room ratio is 37.4 inches. The Insight allows more than enough room to seat 4 to 5 passengers with 60/40 split rear seats. The base model "LX" is standard with cloth seats, heated mirrors, push-button start, and a six-speaker audio system that includes Bluetooth capability. The "EX" model includes an eight-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, and Smart Key entry, which allows the driver access using their KeyFob.

What Kind of Cargo Space Does the Insight Offer?

Since the Insight is a sedan and not a liftback, there is a roomy trunk that is capable of holding all the cargo needed between destinations. This distinction puts the Insight on its level from other hybrids.

According to Honda, the 2019 Insight is part of the company’s plan to make a high percentage of its cars electrified over the next few years. The company has invested a large number of resources in developing sedans that have alternative fuel systems. The Insight will nest between the Civic and Accord, with the latter still being on the higher end. The 2019 Honda Insight is expected to be available by the summer of 2018.
