Winter is in full swing here in Phoenix, which means we can finally turn off our air conditioners and enjoy some windbreaker weather. We may not get much snow or below zero temperatures here in the desert, but we make up for it with some of the coolest holiday traditions. One of those traditions is CitySkate, which transforms downtown into a mini North Pole.

Located in the CityScape area of downtown Phoenix, CitySkate is the only real outdoor ice rink in the city. Decorated with glittering lights, snowflake arches and a giant Christmas tree, there’s no shortage of holiday magic and merriment here. Even Santa Claus himself pops in from time to time—catch him on Dec. 17 and 18 from 1-6 p.m. for those last minute wish list requests.

This year, CitySkate has also implemented some changes in order to make it an even more enjoyable experience for you and your family. Skating is now broken into sessions, which makes the ice a little less crowded so you have more room to show off your skills. Express passes are also available for purchase, which gives you the opportunity to skip the line altogether! These tickets can only be purchased online, while the standard general admission tickets are only available onsite.

CitySkate is open daily through Jan. 8, 2017, which gives you plenty of time to check out this downtown holiday staple. The rink will even have special hours on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! Session times, as well as a link to purchase express passes, can be found on CitySkate’s website.
