Honda Tests Their 2023 Civic Type R at Suzuka Circuit in Japan

The Civic is one of the top-selling cars in Honda's lineup. It comes in a variety of different body styles and configurations. The Civic Type R is the hot hatchback version of this car. It's known for its athletic performance and sporty styling. Honda recently tested its upcoming 2023 version of the Civic Type R at Suzuka Circuit.

Suzuka Circuit is a famous international racetrack located in Suzuka City, Japan. This 5.807 kilometer-long track is the perfect place for testing the horsepower and handling of a car like the Civic Type R. The 2023 models will get a major overhaul in both looks and performance. This will be the 11th generation model of the Honda Civic Type R. It's scheduled to hit the market in late 2022.

The test vehicle sported a camouflaged body and was still in the prototype stage. As far as appearance goes, the 2023 Civic Type R seems to have a simple, less-busy design. There are wider fenders, a sporty wing, and a sleeker overall style. The exhaust note is louder and more aggressive than the previous models. A series of images and a short video of the tests were released in December of 2021.

Viewers of the video and images got a quick glimpse of the Type R interior as well. The bucket seats were covered in bright-red cloth upholstery. The seats had a sporty design with aggressive bolsters. The steering wheel was covered in fine suede. Honda purposely blurred out several interior components while covering other parts with camouflage.

It's not yet known what performance upgrades the Civic Type R will get, but Honda promises they're coming. The current Type R hatchbacks are capable of 306 horsepower with 295 pound-feet of torque. Honda has stated that more details will be released later in the year ahead of the vehicle's final rollout.
